1. Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using Steward (“the Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

Steward is a personal finance application that provides budgeting tools, transaction tracking, AI-powered expense categorization, tax deduction identification, and AI financial guidance for self-employed individuals. The Service is available via mobile app and web dashboard.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and a resident of the United States to use Steward. By using the Service, you represent that you meet these requirements.

4. Account Registration

  • You must provide accurate and complete information when creating an account.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
  • You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
  • You must notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or other users' data
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
  • Use automated means to access the Service without our prior written consent
  • Share your account with others or create multiple accounts

Steward is not a financial advisor, tax professional, or accounting service. The information and tools provided by Steward, including AI-generated advice from Stuart, are for informational and educational purposes only. They do not constitute financial, tax, legal, or accounting advice.

  • Tax deduction identification is based on automated analysis and may not be accurate for your specific situation.
  • Always consult a qualified tax professional before claiming deductions.
  • Budgeting calculations are estimates and should not be relied upon as guaranteed financial guidance.
  • AI-generated advice reflects general principles and may not account for your complete financial situation.

7. Third-Party Services

Steward integrates with third-party services including Plaid (bank connections) and Anthropic (AI features). Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party service outages, data processing, or changes to their services.

8. Subscription and Payments

  • The Free tier provides basic functionality at no cost.
  • The Pro tier is available at $9.99/month or $79.99/year.
  • Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled before the renewal date.
  • You can cancel anytime; access continues until the end of the billing period.
  • We may change pricing with 30 days' notice. Existing subscribers are grandfathered at their current rate until they cancel.

9. Intellectual Property

Steward, including its design, code, features, and branding (the “Steward” name, shield logo, Stuart character) are the intellectual property of Steward and protected by copyright and trademark law. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the Service without permission.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Steward and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service.

Our total liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $100, whichever is greater.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

12. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time for violation of these Terms, with or without notice. You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us. Upon termination, your data will be handled according to our Privacy Policy.

13. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or via email. Continued use of Steward after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.
